AP Summer Assignment

1. Eukaryote- Any organism with cells that have a membrane bound nucleus and contains special organelles.
2. Meristem- Embryonic tissuein plants. It is undifferentiated. It is growing actively dividing cells.

3. Cellulose is the chief constituent of cell walls and composed of glucose.


4. Flowers contain a Flower Ovary. This is where the pistil holds the ovule. Part of female reproductive system.



5. This flower contains Pollen. Pollen is the fertilizing element of flowering plants. It is a powdery yellowish substance.




6. Phloem is the tissue in vascular palnts that conducts food from leaves. In this tree and in other woody stem plants it forms a sheatlike layer of tissue in stem just inside bark.





7. This worm is an example of an Annelid. An Annelid is any segmented worm of the phylum Annelida.






8. Female Pine Cone- THis is the feamle part of the pine tree. it holds the seeds then releases them later. They have to be bigger to hold the seeds.







9. A Hummingbird is a Pollinator. Its a biotic agent that moves pollen from the male anthers to female stigma.


















10. This Angelfish is an Ectotherm. It is a cold blooded animal and it depends on the water temperature to uphold its body temperature.






















11. My dog is an Endotherm. She is warm blooded and keeps her body temperature about the same all the time












12. Muscle fiber- Striated- any of the elongated cells characteristicof muscle. Relates to skeletal muscle. Form of fibers combined in parallel fibers. They can be found in my little sister's arm.













13. This is a Gymnosperm Cone. They grow on pine trees.














14. This is some sort of Fungus. Fungus is any variety of organisms that reproduce by spores including mushrooms, molds, yeasts, and mildews.















15. Conifer leaves grow on pine trees. They are different than decidouos leaves. They are more needlelike.
















16. A Gymnosperm is a vascular plant having seeds not in the ovary.

















17. The tick on my dog is a Parasite. It is living and feeding off of my beagle without helping my dog at all. It is hurting her.


















18. An elephant is just one example of a K-Strategist. They are characterized by long lives, long pregnancies, few young, and they reproduce late in life.



















19. There are Enzymes in my little sisters digestive tract that help her digest her food. Enzymes help speed up chemical reactions.




















20. Anther and Filament of stamen. The anther is the pollen bearing part and filament is the slalk that bears the anther.





















21. Auxin- The producing area of a plant. Any of several plant hormones that regulate various functions of the cell.






















22. A spider is an example of an Arthropod. They are characterized by segmented bodies, jointed limbs, and invertebrates.























23. Angiosperm is a plant having seeds in the ovary.
























24. This plant is an autotroph. It makes its own food by photosynthesis. It does not need to look for food like animals.

























25.A spider is an Animal with a segmented body. It has two parts; the cephalothorax and the abdomen.


























26. This is an example of a herbaceous stem. These stems have little or no woody tissue. Plants with these stems normally die and grow back every year.
























































27. This tree is an example of a Woody Stem. They start out as a bush then continue to grow and eventually become a tree like this one.





























28. Deciduous Leaf- After this leaf has matured fully and no longer can be on the tree, it is shed and falls to the ground.






























29. Thorn Of Plant- The thorns on this rose bush help protect the plant from animals. The thorns are just modified branches.































30. Connective Tissue is tissue that consists of various cells protein fibers embedded in a carbohydrate ground substance that suppoerts and binds together other tissues and bones.
